Dress Code
School dress reflects the importance of the daily education environment and is a statement of mutual respect for one another. Please note that the Dress Code applies to all students in all grades.
Bare backs, shoulders or midriffs, exposed undergarments, spaghetti straps, mini-skirts, cleavage, short-shorts and clothing with offensive wording or drawings are not acceptable. Some explanation of these terms:
spaghetti straps- any shoulder strap that is narrower than a 3 finger width
skirt/short length- with arms by the side, the length of the short/skirt must be longer than end of the thumb
The school reserves the right to require changes in dress that is deemed inappropriate for school wear. Parents may be contacted and students may be sent home to change their clothing. At Van Walleghem, students are not permitted to wear hats in instructional spaces. Hats designed for outdoor wear are not to be worn in the classrooms and all outdoor wear must be kept in lockers or on coat racks.
