Picking-Up Students

In the event that buses are cancelled we follow the following protocol to facilitate the extra traffic at the end of the day and avoid student exposure to severe weather.

No Bus Pick-Up Protocol in Inclement Winter Weather

When school busses are canceled many more children need to be picked up at the end of the day and traffic congestion becomes a safety concern. To ensure a safe pick-up of all of our children, we use the following protocol:

Princemere Road becomes a one-way street. Two staff members re-direct traffic at the corner of

Lindenwood Drive West & Princemere to Kingsborough Drive. Another staff member crosses children who walk home.

Teachers accompany children to the front hallway, where they will wait inside with their teachers or with other members of their car pool.

Some children may be meeting their parents at a prearranged location. If teachers believe the plan is reasonable

and safe, in consideration of the weather, they dismiss these children.

Staff members in the loop at the front of the school keep traffic moving and contact the office by two-way radio as cars arrive telling the office which children should come outside. The office staff announce the children’s names over the PA. Drivers are asked to please be patient and remain in their vehicles. You may wish to delay your arrival to 3:40 for older children. This protocol will begin at 3:20 and will stay in effect until all children are picked up.
